Ahmedabad entitled with UNESCO World Heritage City of India in July 2017. Its first city in India was declared based on various criteria among Delhi, Mumbai, and other Metro cities of India. There are may reasons for awarding Heritage City.
Here is the list of the heritage places in Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has taken very effective steps to protect heritage places to gain heritage city status. One of the examples is they have not destroyed the old architecture, 100+ years old Steel Bridge “Ellisbride” was not in good condition instead of destroying it created supporting 2 bridges.
